NASA ASCAN Event Lighting at The Johnson Space Center in Houston

LD Systems provided NASA ASCAN event lighting for on location production of the astronaut candidate announcement television broadcast on NASA TV from the NASA Facility at Ellington Field Joint Reserve Base in Houston Texas.   The live event introduces individuals that have been selected to begin training to become astronauts.

Our lighting design team deployed a lighting truss suspended from an aircraft hangar roof, stage lighting for onstage illumination and area wash lighting for scenic lighting elements.  These elements included up lighting two T-38 Talon supersonic jets and a large American Flag suspended between the aircraft. The event lighting was specifically designed to blend scenic set design with evenly lit directional lighting for each candidate and speaker on stage.

Once they have completed their initial training, the astronaut candidates will be full astronauts eligible for assignment to missions supporting the Artemis program or perform research aboard the International Space Station and other deep space missions.   Please visit https://www.nasa.gov/astronauts to learn about the candidates and our heroic NASA astronaut teams.
