The Christmas Village at Bayou Bend is an immersive Christmas experience at the Bayou Bend Collection and Gardens. The Museum of Fine Arts Houston event is a dazzling winter wonderland display featuring thousands of lights throughout the 14 acre estate. This outdoor winter event transpires over several weeks throughout the holiday season. LD Systems designed a lighting and video projection system that would operate in outdoor winter conditions. The Bayou Bend lighting design allows for guests to tour the site during evening hours and meander through varied scenes in the gardens.
The Christmas Village at Bayou Bend lighting covers large areas of the campus gardens requiring carefully planned cable paths. Conventional lighting fixtures are positioned in ideal locations to highlight main buildings and garden dislays. Scenic lighting sequences are programmed by our lighting design technicians to time code allowing for different lighting displays to cycle throughout the evening performances.
Video projection mapping is utilized on a wing section of the Ima Hogg house facing the main entrance to the event campus. A custom created life sized video animation loops providing entering guests a special visual experience. A video projector is located in a secluded tower and uniquely oriented to create a video display surface that covers the entire height of the building. An LD Systems managed sound system distributes audio to accompany the video projection.
