TDECU Stadium Scoreboard Audio System Upgrade

TDECU Stadium has been the home of the University of Houston‘s Cougar Football program since 1946.  TDECU Stadium also hosts several high school football games each year and university commencement exercises for graduating classes.   The LD Systems integration division designed and installed a new TDECU stadium scoreboard audio system that will provide intelligible speech and musical energy for up to 40,000 attendees.

Stadium Scoreboard PA System

LD Systems removed the existing scoreboard audio equipment and installed an L-Acoustics speaker system consisting of 24 K2 cabinets, 12 KARA II and A15 sidefill speakers.  The wide frequency range of the K2’s three-way speaker element allows for full spectrum audio reproduction without the use of traditional sub woofers.  The horizontal directivity of the K2 cabinets also allow for maximum stadium coverage.  L-Acoustics X12 and X8 point source cabinets were used to provide audio coverage for the areas directly below the scoreboard not covered by the main PA.  L-Acoustics LA4X, LA12X and LA12Xi amplifiers power the audio system.

Digital Signal Processor and Audio Console Upgrade

Digital signal processing for the audio system is achieved using a QSC Q-SYS ecosystem providing multiple expansion slots and a Dante network for connectivity with future audio environments and visiting team’s media production requirements.  NetGear AV networking switches were installed over the existing cabling runs giving audio engineers the ability to monitor the entire system with real time audio information.  This custom designed network infrastructure will allow for isolated control and includes a QSC touch panel intefraces for easy end user control.  A Digico SD21 audio console will provide 48 channels of audio mixing and routing capabilities for the variety of audio output required by large events.
