The Texas A&M University Spring and Summer Commencements Stage Lighting and Sound Design

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, approximately 5000 graduates of the Texas A&M University Class of 2020 were unable to participate in commencement ceremonies during their graduating year. In an effort to provide the experience missed by so many deserving graduates, University officials decided to hold makeup ceremonies. LD Systems provided Texas A&M Graduation event stage lighting and sound design and a broadcast lighting system for the in-person event.

Lighting for Broadcast and Utilizing Live Sound Expertise to Produce Large Area Audio Coverage

The large number of socially distanced participants and grand size of Kyle Field Stadium required a short and very wide audio coverage pattern to provide sound for the expansive area. LD Systems audio engineers created a custom sound design using L-Acoustics Sound Vision software and a 3D model of Kyle Field.  L-Acoustics K2 line array were ground supported on custom audio risers deployed around the perimeter of the field. KARA arrays delivered sound coverage for the extreme edges of the audience and KIVA II provided front fill coverage. SB18 subwoofers were used beneath the KARA to match the sonic signature of the full-range counterpart in K2.

Stage lighting requirements were met using Clay Paky Scenius Unico fixtures discretely deployed on the stadium concourse and Robert Juliat Dalis 862 footlight battens were used on the downstage edge to light onstage participants.

LD Systems production services has been providing specific event production plans, audio, lighting fixtures, video screens and technical event staff for graduations throughout Texas.  We also assist with social distantancing seating plans for live events.  Congratulations to Texas A&M University and all the graduates accepting their diplomas on the graduation stage!
