LD
Systems led the team in technical production and creative coordination
for the Power of Houston events. The
Power of Houston was a vision
overtop a backdrop of the Houston skyline. Billed as "The
Largest Laser, Light and Fireworks Spectacular in North America",
it was visually stunning.
Ten
tons of pyrotechnics, four hundred optical watts of laser, and
two million watts of light were used to create
the event. The
event presents a unique set of communications and technical challenges,
not the least of which is the necessity of linking 84 sites with
15 miles of dedicated cabling to ensure split-second timing throughout
the show. This was accomplished by setting up a central voice
and
data communications headquarters which functioned around the clock
for several weeks leading up to the event. 125 highly skilled
technicians
joined the team for a three week period of set-up and operation.
The presentation was seen by millions of spectators, covered
144
city blocks, and was visible 360 degrees around the cityscape.
Buildings up to 1,200 ft. were illuminated in a multitude of
colors, as over
sixty became the "stage" from which to launch pyrotechnics,
mount large format lighting, and construct wash lighting towers.
