The People of LD Systems
Focus on Tom Smith
LD Systems 24 years
In the mid 1970's while working for Bechtel Engineering,
Tom met one of the founding partners of LD Systems, who introduced
him to the key members of the LD Systems team.
Tom began working freelance for LD Systems and continued
the relationship for several years before jumping ship from Bechtel
in 1979 to become full-time member of the LD team. As a Sound Engineer,
Tom worked tours with artists Don Williams, Ronnie Milsap, Stevie
Ray Vaughn, and Andre Crouch, and countless local/regional gigs
for national and local artists. As the company continued to grow
Tom eased into the role of Sound Department Manager, working in
that capacity until 1998. In the spring of 1998 Tom reinvented himself
and transitioned into the Engineering Department of what is now
the Systems Integration Division of LD Systems. He continues to
work in Engineering today and has been an integral part of the Systems
Integration team. Tom has worked on such projects as Compaq Center,
Minute Maid Park, Reliant Stadium, the Toyota Center, and the Fellowship
of the Woodlands Church to name a few.
When asked for a few words about his career with LD,
Tom said, “What a long, strange trip it's been.”
