The People of LD Systems
Focus on Jim Brace
LD Systems 20 years

Stevie Ray Vaughan tour 1985.
Jim Brace began his career in the industry back in
1976 working for Clearlight Enterprises, a family owned lighting
company that at one time shared an office/warehouse with LD Systems.
Jim put everything he owned in storage, and hit the road with the
Peter Frampton on the Frampton Comes Alive tour in 1976. One sold
out stadium after another was pretty eye-opening for a 22-year old
kid. In the fall of 1977 Jim was part of the tragically abbreviated
Lynyrd Skynyrd Survivor tour, followed by 6-months of medical recovery.
Unwilling to stay down for long, he was back on the road in 1978
for 135 shows with Foreigner on the Double Vision tour.
Jim left Clearlight in 1980 and worked for IATSE local 51 for 2
years, followed by a year with Cameron Iron Works in machine tool
repair.
In 1983, Jim brought his extensive road experience to LD Systems
and began working most of the shows we booked, as well as expanding
the lighting department’s capabilities from one small system.
Over the years, Jim worked many regional tours, and several national
tours, including Stevie Ray Vaughn. He became the Head of the Lighting
Department in 1989, but remained involved in the larger events,
including both San Antonio and Houston rodeos.
He became LD Systems Lighting Director for the Houston Livestock
Show and Rodeo in 1995 and continues in that capacity today. Jim
said, “I’ve been very fortunate to have many quality
individuals working with me over my 20-years at LD Systems. While
some have moved on to other ventures, many are still here. This
can be a difficult industry, having good people to rely on, who
also rely on you, has been very rewarding.”
