3D Mapping Projection on the City of Sugar Land City Hall.
Producer: City of Sugar Land
3D Content Creation: Texas Video & Post

Using four Philips Barco R20HD projectors and a Green Hippo Hippotizer Stage 3 media server, LD Systems helped turn Sugar Land's City Hall into a spectacular 3D projection surface. The show was a combination of stock video effects and custom 3D content along with moving lights, fireworks and a concert-sized sound system.

Rave-type graphics on Sugar Land's City Hall
The event spanned many hours which we filled with music and imagery.

Vari-Lites at work
The city hall plaza area buildings were lit with various lighting instruments. To the right is a scissors lift supporting one of the four high-output HD video projectors.

Building lighting set to music
As the music changed, so too did the building's lighting.

Detail projected highlights
Visual artists and animators created dazzling images on the city hall facade. LD System's playback media server and other lighting effects were set to timecode and programmed by LD staffer AJ Freysteinson.

3D Mapping Projection
3D effects are more about the shadows and viewer perspective than animation by itself.

Projection and fireworks
Fireworks in the show meant that the projectors had to be big, bright, and numerous... or not at all.

Concert staging
The live portion of the event required a concert audio systems and performance lighting. LD was originally hired to do just that but brought in the other effects projection by inviting representatives to another 3D event, Glowrama.

Sound processing
The sound system gets little mention during these events but it had to be clear over a large area. LD brought the ElectroVoice P3000RL processing for the X-Line Array system. A similar system, but on a much larger scale, was used for LD-supported concert tours such as Sarah Brightman and large-scale festivals such as Rock the Bayou.

Images below are from the DJ and band performance segments of the event. While not the 3D mapping projection, they nonetheless show how large imagery can enhance an event.
