GE Holiday Party 2008
Reliant Center, Houston
Looking for a different spin on an exhibit hall-sized event, special event planner Wayne Glimser turned to LD Systems to create four large chandeliers that would dazzle party guests of GE. Each structure was custom designed by staff Lighting Designer AJ Freysteinson to be both the lighting source and the center of attention. The result was more akin to Close Encounters than a typical chandelier.

Each chandelier featured intelligent lights mounted to the end of curved truss.

The overall effect was to occupy the huge space with light and structure. No fabric was needed to "hide" the building's steel support structures. They became part of the decor.

Using AutoCAD, Freysteinson engineered the structures to first hold the weight, then revised to create different artistic designs.

All designs were first built in LDS's Houston facility to ensure safety and performance. Construction challenges were dealt-with before on-site installation.

Only 4 points each were required to rig the structures. They were deisgned to adhere to Reliant Center's beam dimensions and weight limits.

Although not see from this angle by guests, the chandeliers are none the less striking from any angle.

The lighting instruments on the structures included sixteen Vari*Lite VL3500's and sixteen VL3000's.
